Item Description
12.25x20" artboard has original mixed media art depicting the main box lid art for Lindberg model kit No. 434, featuring a 1/72 Scale model of the Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet, a German rocket-powered fighter aircraft. 1965. The Komet is the only rocket-powered fighter aircraft ever to have been operational. Revolutionary in design, the Me 163 was capable of performance unrivaled at the time, reaching 700 mph in 1944, a record not broken in terms of absolute speed until 1947. Over 300 aircraft were built, but the Komet proved ineffective as a fighter. Art shows pilot taxiing Komet before take-off. German airfield can be seen in the bkg. Art is unsigned. Art area measures 9-3/8x17.5". Printer labels at top/bottom margins, which have some staple holes along them. Art remains NM and would look stunning framed.
