Item Description
Lot of four items, all dating to the American Civil War era. Lot includes 1.5x2.5" Gutta-Percha match safe w/"JES" initials carved into inside of hinged lids at each end. Scattered lt. wear w/wear/aging for use to striker side panel. Fine/VF. 6" long metal bullet mold tool is marked "18" and was used for making musket balls. Aged patina, but displays VF. Last items are two 1-3/8" dia. solid grapeshot, a type of shot that is not one solid element, but a mass of small metal balls/slugs packed tightly in a canvas bag. These examples were recovered in the early 1900s from the site of the Battle of Cold Harbor, fought near Mechanicsville, VA. May 31 to June 12, 1864. Grapeshot has aged as expected w/oxidation to somewhat pitted surfaces. Fine overall.
