Item Description
2-1/8 X 3.5” stiff card with black ink inscription: “ For A.R. Walker./A. Lincoln./Sep. 24, 1863.” Very minor age traces. Overall Excellent. We do not know anything about Mr. Walker, but Lincoln took the time that day to sign this card for him. Lincoln’s other known activities that day included: Proclamation #105 lifting the blockade of the Port of Alexandria Virginia, a letter to Sec. of the Treasury Chase, a telegram to Major General Rosecrans who was engaged in battles around Chattanooga, Tennessee saying: “… with Burnside, Sherman and from elsewhere we shall get to you from forty to sixty thousand additional men.” He also send a telegram to his wife at the Fifth Avenue Hotel, New York City telling her that her brother in law Benjamin Helm was among those killed at Chattanooga battle between Rosecrans and Confederate General Bragg. A beautiful example displaying boldly in its iconic simplicity. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
