Item Description
He was without question the first African American to receive votes for the Presidential nomination at the 1968 Democratic Convention. He was the founding member of the "Coalition Of Conscience" and in 1968 headed the Robert F. Kennedy presidential campaign in D.C. He led the D.C. delegation to the 1968 DNC and received 68 votes. Phillips said that his candidacy was meant to show that "The Negro Vote Must Not Be Taken For Granted." Offered here is a 6.5x9" four page program titled "Interfaith Human Rights Banquet/Sponsored By Catholic Interracial Council/March 18, 1969/Seattle Center Exhibition Hall." Inside cover pictures Rev. Phillips and is signed "Channing Emery Phillips" in black felt tip pen 4" long. Comes with Hake's COA.
