Item Description
21.25x26.75" wood frame w/Plexiglas over archival mat reveals 10.25x12.5" image area in India ink and watercolor titled "Jack Davis - Yes" on engraved brass title plate on mat underneath art. Art is preliminary version for single panel cartoon that was published in Vol. 8, #10 Oct., 1961 issue of "Playboy" magazine and can be seen on page 126 of Fantagraphics' "Jack Davis - Drawing American Pop Culture" book. Art features nude blonde w/cigarette holder answering door after having gotten up from her chair in front of picture window. Policeman stands in doorway, the wreckage of three car pile-up can be seen outside window w/smiling and dazed drivers looking in window. Lower right has been signed in ink by Jack Davis. Comes w/4x6" color photo of the artist in his studio holding this original. Image area is bright and NM. The published version is similar, but book on floor has been replaced w/small table w/cocktail glass next to chair, girl is holding magazine, and no men in wreckage are looking in window. This original and the final published version are equal in high quality. Comes w/reading copy of the issue of "Playboy" magazine that the final version of this cartoon was published in. Humorous and very cheeky Davis art.
