Item Description
7.5" dia. by 2.25" deep lidded tin w/paper labels. Lid label features 6" tall image of The Yellow Kid w/raised hand holding a wafer and other hand holding an example of large tin handled wafer pail w/repeated label design. Yellow Kid's shirt reads "Say Dis Is De Greatest Snap I Ever Struck. Dere Fine. I'll Take A Pail To Liz. Dat Brinckerhoff & Co. Knows Dere Biz," referencing baking company that produced the ginger wafers once contained within this tin. Small text along bottom reads "Copyright R.F. Outcault 1896 By Permission New York Journal." Label on lid rim is totally missing, removing four Yellow Kid images' heads. Main lid label shows heavy and obvious wear, though majority of Yellow Kid image remains, w/obvious aging. Paper label on sides has age spotting, 1x1.5" v-shaped piece missing as well as a 2" section of the label missing altogether. Just Poor/Fair, but only a very few of these tins/pails are known and this is the first of this size we've been able to offer in our 47 years. One of the best classic items to depict the character credited as symbolizing the birth of the American comic strip.
