Item Description
2-3/16x6.75". Listed in Sullivan/Fischer as HC-46. Oval bust of Clay surrounded by flags and rays, a shield and eagle. Text above "The Honest Statesman, His Country's Steadfast Friend/Harry Of The West." Text below "Young Men's Whig National Convention Held In Baltimore May 2d 1844." Below this within a wreath is "The Farmer Of Ashland./Honor To Whom Honor Is Due." Beneath this is the engravers name "Bannerman Sc." Top right corner has .5" long stress hairline about .5" down from the corner tip. When held to light there are also a pair of tiny pinholes on the top blank area although these are barely seen otherwise. Couple of small faint marks on the upper blank area while the bottom left has very faint tan tone from the bottom of the flag downward. Ribbon still displays beautifully. While there is an abundance of Clay ribbon designs this particular one using his nickname "Harry Of The West" is rare in our experience.
