Item Description
This is a variety unlisted in DeWitt. The front matches his 1860-90 but this has what is referred to by him as Lincoln portrait #3. The Hamlin reverse is his 1860-97. The Lincoln ferrotype has four near microscopic emulsion dots off extreme upper left edge at 11 o'clock, a pinpoint faintly gray dot on extreme right at 3 o'clock, and a small 1/16" area on the right shoulder of his jacket which is a little lighter in tone than the surrounding black area. All of these flaws are extremely tiny and barely visible with normal viewing. The portrait is extremely clear and the rim has Mint luster. On the Hamlin side the image is on the darker side but with a flawless mirror like surface and again Mint luster. A rare variety. NM. Julie Powell Collection.
