Item Description
The medal is large 1.75" with small hole on upper edge as made. Front center displays the Democratic rooster symbol with four surrounding portraits. At the top is "Grover Cleveland" with the date of "1884" followed by a dash line. Flanking his image is "A Public Office Is A Public Trust." At the bottom is additional text "Victory 1888." At right center is portrait of "Old Hickory/And. Jackson 1829-37." At bottom is portrait dated "1876" of "S.J. Tilden" with slogan "Elected & Counted Out" a reference to the disputed election of 1876. At right is portrait of "Thos. Jefferson" with dates "1801-9" and slogan "Founder Of Democracy." The back of the piece shows the "Exposition And Music Hall St. Louis Mo." Above in a circle is "Mayor Of St. Louis/David R. Francis" along with additional text "In Commemoration Of National Democratic Convention June 1888." Slight loss of silver luster with tiny 1/32" indent on reverse rim edge. Next are three lapel studs ranging between 5/8" and 7/8". One in brass shows a pair of woman's bloomers inscribed "Free Trade." Next in combination silver and brass luster is horseshoe inscribed "Cleveland 1888." Last in aluminum with a threaded cap on the reverse is portrait of "Grover Cleveland." These three are VF.
