Item Description
1.25” button with back paper naming W&H as maker but also with large text reading “Read The Dispatch Baseball Extra ‘All The Dope’.” The button is promoting publication of the Columbus Dispatch headed by sports editor Ernest Barnard, who later became president of the American League. The artwork on the button is by Billy Ireland, a cartoonist who worked for the Dispatch doing both editorial cartoons and a Sunday feature called “The Passing Show.” The button is possibly promoting the local team Columbus Senators, but more likely, given the black and yellow colors, the Pittsburgh Pirates. Button readings “’Nuthin’ But The Pennint Fer Mine’ Teck Haskins”. Glossy and NM. Scarce local issue.
