Item Description
This piece is 1-1/8" tall with a long pointed prong at the top of the reverse serving as a stickpin with a metal clutch that becomes the fastener. The inscription at the front top in black is missing a few tiny dots of color. What the text "World's Fair One" could represent we do not know. It could possibly refer to Grover Whalen appointed by Mayor LaGuardia to turn the former ash dumps of Flushing into the World Of Tomorrow. In any case, this item begins with seven rubies at the bottom of the shield followed by five yellow diamonds above. The diamonds are fully faceted as are the rubies. A line divides this base from the upper area featuring sapphires placed vertically to represent a skyline with a slightly raised Trylon & Perisphere design with both pieces accented by very tiny stones. The sapphires have beveled edges. We do not know if the sapphires and rubies are natural or laboratory grown. The upper background, above the sapphires have vertical lines merging into swirling lines representing clouds and over this area is where the text is positioned. There are no markings on the piece. The reverse is a flat sheet except for the prong. The item tests for strong 14K gold. The most exquisitely made World's Fair badge to be worn we have ever seen. NM displaying Mint.
