Item Description
19.5x30" silk-screened poster on high quality paper for April 30, 1994 party/event held at Maritime Hall in San Francisco, CA. in honor of Chester Leo "Chet" Helms (1942-2005), often called the father of San Francisco's 1967 "Summer of Love." Helms was a music promoter and a cultural figure in San Francisco during its hippie period in the late 1960s and was the founder/manager of Big Brother and the Holding Company, recruiting Janis Joplin as its lead singer. Event was attended by Creedence Clearwater Revival members, Peter Tork of The Monkees, Big Brother, Greg Allman, Steve Miller and an assortment of 1960s psychedelic era luminaries. Poster features large central image of Family Dog's Indian mascot flanked by two women, large "Tribute" text at top and was designed by Alton Kelley, who has signed in white pencil above his printed signature at lower right. Corners are clipped as designed. There was a signed and numbered edition of 350 issued for this event, this is unnumbered proof and has been hand-signed by Kelley. Some scattered handling/margin wear. VF/Exc. From the Mark Arminski Archives and comes with a COA specially designed, signed and remarqued by him.
