Item Description
This is a 1980s recreation by Doug West, who has since become one of the premiere sports artists; his professional work for MLB, NBA and NHL includes cover art, card art and lithographs. Large 30.25x40.25" frame contains original India ink and mixed media recreation of Frank Brunner's cover for Nov. 1973 "Marvel Premiere" #12 comic book that featured Doctor Strange. West has slightly altered the set-up of this scene, stretching it out for more of a landscape view whereas the original comic cover was more compact. Art features Doctor Strange facing off against the Living Gargoyle, blasting the advancing monster w/the mystical Eye of Agamotto as a stunned Gypsy Queen lays at his feet. Story was entitled "Portal To The Past" in which Strange gets captured by the Gypsy Queen, making him transport them to Baron Mordo's castle for battle, Gypsy Queen having been seduced and tricked by Mordo. West has signed his name in ink below Doctor Strange's feet. Displays Exc.
