Item Description
Original cardboard shipping box w/"Gilfillan" Christmas mailing label contains 1955 advertising mobile sent to military and civilian airports as a form of advertising. Of note, this box was hand-addressed to "Office Of Chief Of Naval Operations" at the Pentagon. Box shows heavy aging/dust soiling w/corner creases to dusty mailing label. VG. Box contains 5x5x5" tall die-cut cardboard base w/"Merry Christmas From Gilfillan - Los Angeles - Happy New Year 1955" and "Happy Landings From Gilfillan GCA Quadradar." Pair of swiveling radar dishes on side of base. This has five thin wire supports attached w/monofilament string to which several die-cut translucent plastic shapes are attached to hang in mobile fashion. Most of these shapes include various different types of aircraft including jets and military craft as well as frame w/four different suspended discs representing radar screens. Top of mobile has die-cut plastic Santa Claus in his sleigh and paper tag advising how to hang mobile. Four "feet" are still contained in box, mobile having never been fully assembled. Scattered lt. aging/wear w/some small areas of insect damage to silver base surface and one plastic jet wing has crease to tip. VF overall. Comes w/8-3/8x11.5" double-sided promotional sheet. One side shows two different views of mobile set up while back has additional display instructions and image of technician at the controls of Gilfillan's new GCA Quadradar system. Vertical/horizontal fold through center w/some slight rippling. Fine overall. Very limited production and display's fragile nature makes this a very rare piece. First we've seen in our 48 years. Exceptional design and makes for a wonderful display.
