17-7/8x23-7/8" artboard w/partial cardboard mat contains original mixed media portrait art of American professional wrestler and 6-time World Heavyweight Champion Ed Lewis, best known by his ring name Ed "Strangler" Lewis. A pioneer in the sport of professional wrestling, Lewis had a career that spanned four decades. Portrait image area measures 10x12" and features close-up facial portrait of the wrestler, who has signed "Sincerely - Ed 'Strangler' Lewis - Feb. 7-35" at lower right in black ink. Large 6.5" crack to surface at top right (not affecting portrait or signature) and 6" crack above upper left corner of portrait. Upper right has some scattered dust soiling. Upper left has 3" crack and top center has some pinholes. Margins shows aging/wear w/some brittleness and chipping. VG overall, but art could be matted out and framed for a VF display. This art was apparently created for a sign as reverse has thin wooden boards mounted to left/right edges and has penciled wrestling match information. Nice art and clean signature.
