Item Description
5x8.25x11" tall thin cardboard production sample display w/die-cut header and attached work order. 1934. Header features photo image of "Red Davis" radio program star Burgess Meredith (better known to most as The Penguin from the 1960s "Batman" TV show). Meredith starred in the role of Red Adams in "Pepper Young's Family," one of radio's more popular daytime drama series, w/various format/title changes during its long 1932-1959 run. The program began as "Red Adams" before the title changed to "Red Davis" after Beech-Nut Gum signed on as a sponsor (they wanted no mention of Adams gum, their competition). The series became "Pepper Young's Family" in 1936. Display features tray for displaying packs of "Beech-Nut's Radio Favorite" gum. This has attached work order slip that has been filled out by hand w/ink, noting "Red Davis Merchandiser," whom it was purchased from and quantity/cost. Header features "Red Davis Is Back - Tune In Every Mon. Wed. & Fri. Night - NBC-WJZ Network - Coast-To-Coast." Header shows some corner tip wear and scattered color rubs. Fine/VF.
