Item Description
7.5x8" prototype jet made from leftover scrap metal (w/building design on underside) that was hand shaped and hand painted to resemble a US Air Force Delta jet, complete w/Air Force markings on wings and below cockpit. Hard plastic tail fin attached at back. Underside has attached friction sparkling drive, though missing flint inside tail fin and as such, no longer sparks. This friction mechanism is marked "Erie - X-2575-8 - 12-29-51," dating this prototype to 1951 and indicating this was produced at the Erie, PA. plant. Scattered wear and aging. VF overall. This prototype never saw production. From the John Bowers Collection.
