Item Description
13.25" long w/18.5" wide wingspan tin litho dual fuselage bomber in camouflage colors sharing single wing. This is a prototype that used the fuselages of two earlier 1938 wind-up warplanes w/three prop motors (one in between fuselages) and pair of tin litho machine guns on wings. Design includes gunners on side behind wings and on tops below Marx logo. Wings have flying star decal w/"Made In U.S. Of America" text that were not used on Marx's production wind-up warplanes, used only for this prototype. Underside of wing is marked "Erie - 8-16-194 - #X-341" which dates this prototype to 1941 and notes it was made at Marx's Erie, PA. plant. Underside has spring-drive wind-up mechanism that works somewhat. Propellers are free-running. Scattered wear w/more moderate wear to front ends of fuselages, w/some oxidation to exposed base metal. Right side of wing has slight bow as made. Rest of plane has scattered wear in the form of small nicks/scratches. Fine overall. This prototype ultimately never saw production. From the John Bowers Collection.
