Item Description
1-5/16” diameter very thin planchet, w/original, but re-soldered, reverse shank. The front has “GW” initials at center surrounded by “Long Live The President.” Surrounding this are 13 ovals enclosing the initials of the original 13 states. The die strike on the front is very sharp and the indents forming the ovals enclosing the initials of the states are completely individual and not bleeding together as occurred later once the dies became worn. The button’s center with fancy “GW” initials is slightly raised compared to the surrounding surface of the button. Moderate scattered tarnish as expected, but most of the front has a nice reflective deep brass tone which makes the inscriptions easy to see. A Fine and complete example.
