Item Description
Portrait brooches in this ornate brass oval frame are known for the 1828 candidates Jackson and J.Q. Adams as well as Daniel Webster and George Washington. We’ve seen the Jackson and Webster with color tinted background, but this is the only Washington example with tinted background known to us. This George Washington example has a glass cover with a flat top surface smoothly merging into a beveled outer edge. The glass has a few near microscopic scratches seen only in angled light. The portrait is totally clean with tiny, but crisp, details. The reverse has a T-Bar pin. There is a tiny laser weld holding a vintage replaced “C” clasp that holds the pin point. Most brass luster remains on the frame. Overall VF and displays NM. Among the earliest known portrait pins for George Washington. Rare.
