Item Description
c. 1828-1832, this piece is similar to the Hake book example, but the book example has a smaller portrait facing right while this has noticeably larger high relief portrait and a larger collar with the image facing left. The nut is quite large at 1-5/8” wide by 2-5/8” tall by 1” thick. The portrait stands out in relief 3/8” at the deepest point. The top of the reverse side has a shallow gouge 7/16” long. The bottom of the piece is flat with traces of what seems to be very old glue surrounding a thin wood peg about 1/8” long as if the piece was once mounted, perhaps to a cane. Each of these pieces, of which only two are known to us, is unique as they were hand carved. An outstanding likeness of Jackson with front displaying Mint.
