Item Description
1-5/8” in copper on a thick planchet with traces of original luster remaining. Obverse has his name and portrait with slogan “Never Surrenders.” Reverse slogan reads “I Ask No Favors & I Shrink From No Responsibility” plus a center scene of eagle atop a panel surrounded by flags with the panel listing names of his Mexican War battles. DeWitt notes that about 25 examples were made in copper around 1860 making this example quite a rarity. Obverse has a small dark spot along the back of his head but overall condition is Exc.
