Item Description
These pieces are 4.25” to 4.75” tall depending upon how the suspension is joined to the loop at the bottom of the ribbon. Reverses of many have ink stamped name of maker Shaw. Each suspension has a celluloid disk on both the obverse and reverse. The first item with medallion showing real photo of McKinley on the front has gold text mostly gone but still with readable slogan “Souvenir National Rep. Convention/Philadelphia June 19th.” Reverse of the piece has real photo of a man, likely a Philadelphia or Pennsylvania politician. The next seven pieces are designed more or less identically with each ribbon bearing the convention name and date. The first three were issued for the “Press”, “Press Messenger”, and “Telegraph Messenger”. On the reverse of these three pieces is a celluloid identical to that shown on the first item of row two. This piece depicts overlapping busts of “Lincoln/Grant/McKinley.” The back of the piece in row two reads “Employee.” The other three positions in row two are “Page”, “Usher”, and “Door Keeper”. Reverses of these three have the celluloid shown on the front of the first item in row two. Gold text is off items four and six but slogans remain readable. Item three has a little splitting where the fabric wraps over the ring that holds the suspension but overall the fabric ribbons remain in Extremely Fine condition and the celluloids are all extremely clean. These are all very limited issues used only at the convention by select groups of people.
