Item Description
c. WW II. Thin art board has 8x10.75” India ink image area w/white paint accent. Striking scene has grizzly dictator/fascist in suit w/top hat wearing sash w/ “Germany, Italy, Japan, Austria, Poland” badges and “U.S.” badge pinned to side. He sits atop cannon holding whip and giving Hitler salute. People of various nationalities pull cannon uphill w/barbed wire fence in background. Reverse side has publication title in pencil “ The Working Woman 50 East 13 St”. Trace of lt. aging, lower right margin edge has barely noticeable .5” tear. Will frame to near Exc. appearance. Gropper (1897-1977) was a noted radical who also painted and did lithographs and murals. A striking example of his work supporting the plight of the common man being bullied during war.
