Item Description
Lot of eight thin artboards measuring between 5.75x17.25" and 7.5x23.25". Strips were published in 1949-1950, 1953, 1962-1963 and each has been done in India ink w/three or four panels. 1949 dates are - March 3; w/Lady Plushbottom hoping Moon Mullins will take her out as Kayo reads comics; March 31; w/Kayo being smacked by Mamie then telling Uncle Willie the zoo people should come get her; Oct. 5 w/Mamie serving the Plushbottoms dinner, being told to "Throw This Old Stew Out" and throwing Lord Plushbottom out instead. 1950 date is - Feb. 23; w/Uncle Willie glad to hear Mamie sing and Kayo noting he could have bought records for what a marriage license cost. 1953 date is - May 11; w/Kayo trying to help Uncle Willie find loose filling and Mamie thinking she dropped flashlight down Willie's throat. First daily has archival mat. All have Frank Willard's ink signature and are complete w/News Syndicate copyright strips. 1962 dates are - Feb. 14; w/Uncle Willie hating his chores; Nov. 6; w/Moon trying to dress up and being kidded by Kayo; 1963 date is - Jan. 31; w/Moon and Lord Plushbottom playing cards, Plushbottom talking in his sleep as Mamie listens. Reverse sides have matching pencil sketches. All have Ferd Johnson's signature in ink and are complete w/News Syndicate copyright strip. Third daily has been signed in ink "To My Good Friend Lloyd Hutchinson - With Best Wishes Ferd Johnson." Well-drawn funny examples by creator Frank Willard's long-time assistant, given to fellow cartoonist Sam Lloyd Hutchinson. Scattered aging/handling wear to artboards, but all art remains Exc.
