Item Description
1959. 11x14” thin art board has 11x13” India ink image w/Mutt and Jeff full figure at easels drawing each other. Jeff says “Come On, Boys And Girls !- If We Can Do It, So Can You!” as Mutt winks. Reverse side has ink stamp date “Feb 16 1959” w/pencil note “ 2 Cols 2nd Comic Page w/Contest”. Board has vertical crease through center, image area otherwise Fine/VF. Al Smith (1902-1986) became an assistant to Bud Fisher on “Mutt and Jeff” in the early 1930s, continuing until 1980 and was President of the National Cartoonists Society 1969-1971. Well drawn.
