This character, a master scientist and brilliant prince of evil, was created by novelist Sax Rohmer in 1913. He appeared in both silent films and talkies. Played by actors such as Warner Oland, Boris Karloff, and in more recent years Christopher Lee and Peter Sellers. The stories were serialized in Colliers magazine and heard on the radio.
