Item numbers 1008 through 2793 in auction 214
Item Description
Lot of five letters written by Hollywood actress and dancing legend Ginger Rogers. Of the five, four have been handwritten w/last being typed on two single-sided sheets. Letters range in size from 6-1/8x8" to 7.25x10.5". Letters come w/four envelopes and all are addressed/written to same woman, a close personal friend of Rogers'. Letters are dated Aug. 19, 1966 (typed, two pages), Dec. 9, 1967 (handwritten, single-sided on "The Edgewater" hotel letterhead from Madison, WI.), March 23, 1971 (handwritten, single-sided on thin "Ginger Rogers" personal vellum stationery), May 5, 1971 (handwritten, double-sided on "Aries" horoscope letterhead) and Oct. 12, 1973 (handwritten, double-sided on "The Madison" hotel stationery). Content of note includes Rogers mentioning one year residency of "Hello Dolly" at St. James Theatre and mentions hopes of doing another movie. Next letter mentions money troubles. Another letter mentions flight she was on w/Marlene Dietrich and Maggie Smith, going on to mention Henry Kissinger. Last letter mentions interviewer asking Rogers how much she makes and her age, to which Rogers replied "I Didn't Think That Was Anyone's Business But Mine!" Letter goes on, w/Rogers listing rather invasive questions asked to her in interviews. Letters have been folded as mailed and show trace aging/handling wear. Exc. overall. Envelopes shows typical wear from mailing. Lot also includes 3.5x.5" candid 1971 snapshot of Rogers at the time she wrote these letters. Exc. A unique and personal lot. Comes with Hake's COA and single JSA LOA for lot, but all letters come from same source and are authentic as such.
