Item Description
This is the rarest Orphan Annie ring and, indeed, one of the rarest of all premium rings. The ring was issued by Quaker cereals, very briefly, during their final year of radio program sponsorship in 1942. This example grades NM and is among the best of 13 known examples. Ring is all brass with adjustable bands. A “Pursuit Plane” is pictured on one side and a “Bombing Plane” on the opposite side. Ring top has a small rivet holding three individual movable plates. Each plate has a small hole of graduated size and the concept is to hold the ring to the sky to look at an airplane. If the airplane image fits within one of these holes then the plane is at an altitude as designated on one of these three pieces as: 25,000 feet, 5,000 feet or 10,000 feet. Overall the luster on both interior and exterior surfaces is essentially Mint. The only exception is at the base of the lower two moveable plates as the pressure from the rivet caused very slight loss of original luster. This is extremely minor and seen only when the plates are fanned out. A superb example overall. Our last example almost this nice and with a mailing box exceeded $2,750.
