Item Description
This program was another of the many aviation focused radio programs of the 1930s. This series featuring 15 year old Speed Gibson as an ace pilot and member of the “International Secret Police” was in syndication in 1937-1938. The program had many sponsors with this rare manual carrying the imprint of the bread company Stroehmann’s. Manual is 5.5x8” and opens to show “Speeds Code”/The “Oath”/plus a membership card to be cut out and an “Assignment No 1” to be filled in after hearing code words on the radio program. Manual is NM. The 19 buttons begin with a rare 1.5” portrait button issued by “Winter’s Bread.” Two very light scratches on his face show only in reflected light. Displays Mint and we’ve seen only two or three. The following is the most extensive group of sponsor buttons known to us. The collection was built over many years. We will document the sponsor names in the order they appear and note any particular defects. Top to bottom left to right group begins with: Bowman’s Prize Winner (minor dent); Buttercup Bread; Butterfly Bread (small dents); Davidson’s Bread; Delorge’s Prize Winner; Gorman’s Bread (slight fade and minor dent); Le Stourgen Prize Winner Bread (many small scratches but only seen in reflected light); Remar Bread; Reymond’s Butter Krust; Storck’s Prize Winner; the following seven have a bit more significant wear. These buttons incude: Butter Cream Bread (age spot at middle); Dreikorns Bread (faded); Gravem-Inglis Vitamin B Bread (two tiny holes through the button above and below the airplane); Log Cabin Bread (numerous scratches in reflected light); Sanitary’s Kewbee (flattened and some stain traces on the edge); Sweetheart Bread (small grey mark center bottom); Walton’s Prize Winner (slight dent and with age traces on the perimeter but blending). A remarkable collection.
