Item Description
3-3/8x5-3/8" showing integrated Wisconsin team w/the inclusion of George Wilson who is lying in the front row lying on the ball field. Stadium seating in the bkg. is filled w/spectators. Postcard has been used including writing on reverse "How Do You Like The Gentleman With The 'Dark Eyes?'" and has postmark of 1907. Front top margin has some areas of dark staining. Team image has a few imperfections in the printing and an ink smudge on player in back row but team image itself remains bold and sharp w/nothing impacting the Wilson image. Fine. This is a totally different postcard from the one we offered for this team in our July 2014 auction (a more dynamic on field image as opposed to the studio shot of that card). Wilson was an early Negro League pitcher who played for the Page Fence Giants 1895-1898, Columbia Giants 1899-1900 and Chicago Union Giants 1901-1905. An early and historic item for Negro League collectors. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
