Clipped 11x15.25" full color newsprint ad for the debut of the "Superman" Sunday page in the St. Louis, MO. "Post-Dispatch" newspaper. 1939. Ad features classic image of Superman breaking chains, but interestingly, image was printed in the wrong colors, as was image of Superman leaping behind "Superman" name. Instead of his traditional blue and red colors, he is depicted here in red w/a green cape and tights and w/o pants. Promotional text includes "Superman Flies Through The Air, He Swims Faster Than A Torpedo, He Hops Over Skyscrapers - Always Crusading For Justice Against The Forces Of Evil" in a slightly modified version of the classic Superman "Faster Than A Speeding Bullet" catchphrase. Other text notes "See The First Of Superman's Adventures In Color Next Sunday In The Post-Dispatch....And Read Superman Daily In The Post-Dispatch." Page has evenly tanned w/age and left margin has three small 1/8" to .25" tears/nicks. Upper right margin has .75" tear but ad is still bright and clean. VF.
