Published in June 9 issue. Period mat w/hand inked caption has 4x5-3/4” opening w/original art of well-dressed couple in brown ink. Caption reads “ Snobley: Aw-Aw- It Must Be Very Unpleasant For You Americans To Be Governed By People-Aw- Whom You Wouldn’t Ask To Dinner! American Belle: Well! Not More So, Perhaps, Than For You In England To Be Governed By People Who Wouldn’t Ask You To Dinner!“ Signed in ink “George duMaurier”. Mat border edge has minor aging. Will frame to Exc. appearance. DuMaurier (1834-1896) began doing two cartoons a week for “Punch” in 1865, and is also known for the novels “Trilby” and “Ibbetson”.
