Item Description
Many different Mickey Mouse tea sets were made in Japan in the 1930s, this is one of the rarer varieties w/some slightly different-shaped pieces and unusual Harlequin Handles on the teapot, sugar and creamer. Comes in generic 10.75x13x3.5" deep cardboard box complete w/insert and illustrated (non-Disney) paper-covered lid. Box shows obvious wear w/one lid corner split and one side panel loose (still attached at corner). Lid has inward warp. Good/VG. This is a 15-piece, four-setting set that includes 4" tall teapot (w/lid), 2-7/8" tall sugar (w/lid) and 2-7/8" tall creamer. All are matching variety w/more bulbous body than those typically found and feature the unusual Harlequin Handles. Also included in set are four 3.75" dia. saucers, four 4.25" dia. plates and four 2.75" dia. by 1.5" tall handled cups. Each features single image of Mickey Mouse (double image of him on teapot); including image of him smoking, playing mandolin and standing. Each type of item features matching images. We have never seen this image of Mickey smoking before. One saucer has .25" edge chip and another has repaired edge chip. These are not that noticeable and do not detract greatly. All pieces have a bright and glossy appearance w/nice iridescent accent paint. Aside from two pieces mentioned, set is Exc. Exceptionally nice tea set. Doug & Pat Wengel Collection.
