The ornate brass shell pin is 15/16” wide with a vertical pin on the reverse and four small tabs holding a brass back cover plate which reads “Patent Applied For.” The names appear on the ferrotype above each man’s head. The emulsion is with high gloss. There are two near microscopic minimal defects. First is a virtual pinpoint dot of emulsion off between the portraits and the second is a less than 1/16” barely seen light scratch below Colfax’s eye on the left. Both defects are mentioned for total accuracy but as they are all but invisible the piece displays beautifully. Hard to improve upon.
