Item Description
3-3/8x5.25" mat finish postcard has wonderful image of crowd in small roof-covered grandstand and in automobiles watching baseball game played in Randolph, Wisconsin. Black batter at far right has just hit ball with runner heading toward second base and white player heading back towards first base. Crowd appears to be mostly white except for apparent manager standing at left side watching the game. A sharp image, postally unused, barely noticeable tiny bit of edge wear but Exc. appearance. The Chicago Union Giants were founded by partners Frank Leland and W. S. Peters in 1887. Each man then operated a Chicago Giants team under his own name. Frank Leland combined the Chicago Unions and the Columbia Giants to form the Chicago Union Giants in 1901. By 1905 they had become the Leland Giants. This historic card dates to the period of about 1904 to 1912. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
