Item Description
2x3.25". Not to be confused with the American Caramel (E121) set of the same year and similar design, this is one of the rarely seen "Gertenrich" variant issues. While the card front features the same Adams photo, the back features an advertisement for "The Baseball Player-Candy Manufacturer." This includes a baseball game illustration and portrait of Gertenrich who had a brief three game Major League career between 1901-1903, thus supporting his claim. Probably a regional Chicago issue which would explain their rarity. Adams was a pitcher in the Major Leagues from 1906 to 1926 and a two-time World Series champion w/the Pittsburgh Pirates. Both sides of the card remain clean and images are bold. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
