Item Description
3.5x5.5". Front shows Central League team South Bend Greens in uniform posed on a ball field. Text at bottom reads "South Bend Base Ball Team. Winner Of 1910 Championship." The is a pre-rookie postcard for Carey who stands third from the left. Reverse printed text includes "The Portage Publishing Co. South Bend, Ind." and ad for local business "Dan Bardeen's Buffet." Reverse unused. Lt. handling wear w/.25" tear on right margin. Fine. The President of the Central League recommended Carey to the Pittsburgh Pirates and he made his debut for the team Aug. 15, 1910. He went on to become a 10-time NL stolen base leader and World Series champion in 1925 w/the Pirates. HOF induction in 1961. Richard Merkin Collection and comes w/Hake's COA.
