Item Description
Original 6.5x8.5" glossy photo w/text sheet attachment on reverse along w/"International News Photo" ink stamp. Great image of Irvin posted w/a bat and wearing his Jersey City Giants uniform. Dated 7/6/1949, just two days before his MLB debut w/the New York Giants on July 8th. Text notes his success in the International League has landed him a spot in the Major Leagues. His name is misspelled "Monty" and he is noted as "Negro Ball Player Is Making A Notable Crossing Of The Hudson River To Take Place In The Giants Lineup." He would go on to become a MLB All-Star in 1952, World Series champion in 1954 and HOF member in 1973, all in addition to his many accolades in the Negro Leagues. Minor handling wear, Exc. Richard Merkin Collection and comes w/Hake's COA.
