Item Description
Original cardboard box w/illustrated lid contains 9" long (to end of rudder) tin litho "Space Ship," in reality a nicely designed futuristic boat. Made in Japan by Asaki Toy, 1950s. Box lid features great illustration of this very toy flying through space, w/another ship and satellite in bkg. 7/8" edge split w/tape repair. Box has some lt. aging and slight concave lid. Fine. Toy is advertised as "Friction Powered" and features wire hand crank on toy that when cranked, causes separate die-cut tin radar dish on front of ship to swivel back and forth and propeller on underside to revolve. Lithography features nuclear symbol behind cockpit, which shows astronaut pilot. Underside of ship has tin litho "legs" for support and moving rudder on wire for use in water. Toy has some minor scattered paint nicks but remains glossy and Exc. overall. A similar Space Patrol variety of this toy was made by Asaki featuring pilot under plastic cockpit dome, both versions are rare.
