Item Description
Three cardboard posters each about 14x22". All are for the famous jazz club that was located in Manhattan's lower east side and operated from the mid-1960s to 1972. It was at this venue that free-jazz musician Sun Ra began playing regular gigs on Monday nights from March 1966 through late 1967. It was also at this club that Lee Morgan was shot by his common-law wife in 1972 (see next lot of posters, item #2573). These posters promote week-long engagements for 1966-1967 for such legendary jazz artists as - Lou Donaldson, Roland Kirk, Freddie Hubbard, Hank Mobley, Yusef Lateef, Kenny Burrell, Philly Joe Jones, Grachan Moncur III and more. Each features Slugs' trademark image of a trumpet on a chair. Brooklyn Poster Printing Co./Murray Poster Printing Co. Inked date on each. Posters o/w have just lt. margin wear/aging. Exc.
