Item Description
All three are 7/8”. The first two with flags are the emblem of a short-lived party formed in 1898 named the Social Democratic Party. Their 1900 candidates were Debs and Harriman. When this party was formed in 1898, proponents of Socialism were divided with many in opposition to Daniel DeLeon and the Socialist Labor Party. Debs was the 1900 nominee but by 1901 this group and disaffected members of the Socialist Labor Party joined to form the Socialist Party of America. The button with larger flag has 1/8” light age mark at 8 o’clock. It also has W&H paper. The small flag button is about 50% stained but retains its color, gloss and has W&H paper from their Milwaukee office. The “For President Debs/Socialist Party/Workers of the World Unite” has union bug on back. The cello has many tiny marks on the surface seen in reflected light but is unstained and with full gloss and unfaded color. The first two are quite scarce and we were unaware of the smaller flag version until now.
