Item Description
1-3/8" tall brass stickpin with blue accent around the slogan, a Civil War rallying cry, "Remember Baltimore." Center depicts crossed flags with vertical design of what seems to be a cannon barrel with tiny ball below. This 1860s patriotic stickpin dates from the time of the Pratt Street Riots when Union troops, on route to the defense of Washington, were attacked by Southern sympathizers as they passed through Baltimore. Several troops were killed, thus becoming the first casualties of the Civil War and making the Lincoln administration more determined than ever to keep Maryland in the Union. N. Mint luster with orange toning. Only example we've seen. A rare and historic piece for both the Civil War and Baltimore history.
