Item Description
Lot of four measuring between 12.75x16" and 14.25x18.5". All done in pen and ink. All presumed to have been done c. 1935, during Brown's tenure at the New York Herald Tribune. First piece shows FDR in wrecked car with passenger labeled "Brain Trust" and chicken crossing in front of them with word balloon from chicken reading "They Must Have Hit Me!" and label "Schechter Poultry Case" referring to case dealing with how FDR and congress tried to alleviate the affects of The Great Depression. Grill of car is labeled "NRA." Second piece shows man blowing horn with "Extry Session" on horn with "Wage & Hours Bill And Crop Control Bill" laying at feet with word balloon "But I Only Meant It For Two!" as three cloaked figures emerge from the "New Deal Graveyard." Figures are labeled: NRA, AAA, KKK who holds a sign reading "Black Controversy." Third piece shows voter holding onto sinking Democratic donkey labeled "New Deal" who is attached to sinking "Roosevelt Incompetance" anchor. Last piece features large image of giant "Dem. Presidential Bee" stuck to "3rd Term Tanglefoot" fly paper as FDR peers from behind tree and says "He'll Be Right There If I Need Him!" Second and third piece have preliminary sketches on reverse. All have varying degrees of handling wear with dust soiling and are overall Fine/VF. See items, #1553, 1555.
