Item Description
8.5x11" typed letter dated March 31, 1922, addressed to "The Cartoonist, The Chicago Daily News." Letter deals with a cartoon Brown did of Bryan and his disdain for Darwinism. Letter also briefly touches on Bryan's views on religion. Letter is dated 3 years prior to the famous 1925 Scopes "monkey" trial in which Bryan prosecuted against the teaching of Darwin's theory of evolution in a Tennessee school room. Letter has several ink highlights/corrections and was signed boldly at bottom "W.J. Bryan," with a slight ink smudge to "W." Letter has been folded for mailing and has some tears at fold creases and light aging. O/w VF. Comes with signed Bryan envelope which also appears to have been filled out by Bryan. Postmarked March, 1924. Envelope consists of front panel only with heavy wear and creasing due to mailing. Good. Comes with Hake's COA. Next two lots #1554-55 consist of editorial cartoons by Brown.
