Item Description
DeWitt/Sullivan 1864-21. At center is a 5/8" ferrotype held by a brass rim to a 1-5/16" diameter high relief ornately carved frame made of horn. The frame is broken horizontally across the center and has been re-glued but only small traces of glue and a hairline break are visible and they detract very little. The reverse has a hook which once held a horizontal pin although the pin shaft is missing. The ferrotype includes his full name and date plus four small stars to the left and right. DeWitt/Sullivan notes that the image comes from a Currier & Ives print. There is an 1/8" darker hairline scratch on the upper right of his forehead and a microscopic 1/32" scratch on his ear but these defects are barely seen. The first example we've been able to offer in five decades. Don & Mildred Wright Collection.
