Item Description
First edition 6.25x9" clothbound hardcover w/dust jacket published by Lyle Stewart, Inc. ©1972 Frank Jacobs. Book tells the history of EC Comics and "MAD" magazine publisher William Gaines, complete w/several photos throughout. Inside front cover has been signed by a number of EC/MAD personalities, including - Will Elder, who inscribed "To Charlie -" in blue felt tip pen; Jack Davis, who inscribed "Lots Of Luck" in blue felt tip pen; Harvey Kurtzman, who inscribed "Regards To Charlie" in black felt tip pen, signing his typical "Kurtz" signature finished w/stick figure man who has word balloon reading "Don't Believe A Word Of It!" Additionally, inside front endpaper has been signed in red felt tip pen by Gaines himself, who adds "For Charlie Roberts - Happy Reading" and "7/4/73" date. Inside front cover has also been signed by artist Sergio Aragonés, who has added wonderful self-portrait sketch showing him at desk drawing Alfred E. Neuman while thought balloon has Gaines portrait. Aragonés has signed/sketched in black ink, adding "07 SD" notation, indicating his contribution was acquired at the 2007 San Diego Comic Con. All signatures were obtained in-person between 1973 and 2007. DJ shows moderate wear w/splits/tears at top/bottom of spine, but DJ remains unclipped. Fine. Book itself is Exc. Unique, one-of-a-kind piece. Charlie Roberts Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
