Item Description
Ornate archival mat has watercolor mounted at center w/4-3/8x7" image area on thin blue art paper. Art is by Phil May (1865-1903), an English caricaturist noted for his pen and ink art in Australia's "The Bulletin" as well as England's "The Graphic" and "Punch." Scene has man w/large stovepipe hat wearing theatrical costume holding sandwich board w/handwritten "Grand Theatre Leeds My Dear Earnest Will You Give Me A Call Tomorrow About 2. I Shall Be Very Glad To See You Yours Ever Phil" text. Upper left has art of Mrs. Farrar (as labeled) w/large hand-lettered text "Wednesday." Lower left has thin full figure of orator and has been signed by the artist. c. 1882. Lower left corner tip has small inked "24 B" designation. Extreme margin edges have scattered aging, image is o/w bright and Exc. Schechter Family collection.
