Item Description
Large and impressive die-cut heavy tin litho matching sign pair. Buster stands 39" tall and holds biscuit in the air for begging Tige, who stands 31.5" tall (including metal support/display brace). Issued by the Brown Shoe Company in the 1910s, one of their early company slogans - "Brown 5 Star Make" - appears on Tige's bow, referring to the durability of their shoes. Buster sign has a few scattered paint nicks/scratches, including 4.75" vertical scratch on his foot. Buster' blue bow has some color loss, but this appears to be as produced. Vintage three-piece wooden brace has been attached to backside, allowing for a sturdy display. Bright, glossy and VF overall. Tige sign has original metal brace, but metal stand is missing, a wooden one could be fashioned w/little effort. Sign shows moderate edge wear w/several small paint flakes. Tige's head (especially his snout and nose area) have obvious areas of missing lithography and 1.25x1.5" area of oxidation around front paws. Scattered nicks/scratches VG. Wonderfully graphic and striking early advertising pair.
