Item Description
Published in "Cracked" #131 in March 1976. Lot consists of complete three-page story on thin artboards measuring 13.75x17.75" w/India ink and ink wash original art by John Severin. "Celebrity Garbage" story features panels filled w/envelopes/letters, w/each panel addressed to different person, letters being similar in theme. Letter recipients include - New York City Mayor Abe Bream w/most letters referencing New York City's then-current fiscal crisis; including letter from Blackstone Magic Society noting that even they cannot sort the city's problems w/magic. Another letter from a pawn shop mentions that they cannot lend on enclosed items (which include photos of Statue of Liberty, Grant's Tomb and Brooklyn Bridge. Another letter from the Mohawk Tribal Council refuses Breams' offer to sell the land back to the Mohawk tribe for the original purchase price of $24. Count Dracula is also spoofed, showing garbage containing "Coffin Deodorant," cracked mirror, sunscreen and note to Renfield asking about checking guests for mirrors. President Gerald Ford's trash includes old football helmet, "Chart For Walking And Chewing Gum At The Same Time," note from Ronald Reagan as well as notes from athletic coaches. Don 'Godfather' Carboney's trash features cement bags, bullet casings, notes from CIA and stables confirming horse head orders. Santa Claus's trash include box of "Sure-Grip Kleats," mace for use against dogs as well as letters from children, toy company, and engineers concerning converting sleigh into "Jet-Propelled Vehicle." Saudi Arabian oil sheik's trash includes several deeds, including Italy, Hollywood and Disneyland (w/image of Mickey Mouse). Last personality spoofed is "Superguy" (an obvious allusion to Superman) w/letter from White House mentioning Kissinger and Middle East, letter from Charles Atlas, "Marvelous Comics" and Playgirl Magazine inquiring about nude modeling. Preface text and names are paste-overs w/additional package paste-over (w/original art) at top center of second page. Each page has inked note at top w/story name/page number and handwritten magazine title/issue number. Margins have some editorial notes. Pages has some lt. even aging/handling wear but are VF/Exc. overall w/Exc. art. Superb and dense graphics throughout w/much humor. See following lot #1721.
